Scrubbers banned in Atlantic ports

Elbe deepening improves prospects for big ships in Hamburg

In a significant move to safeguard ocean health, OSPAR has agreed a regional ban on the discharge of scrubber wash water in internal waters and port areas across the North-East Atlantic by July 2027

The decision marks the first regional regulation on exhaust gas cleaning systems (commonly known as scrubbers) and aims to curb marine pollution caused by these devices.

Environmental groups welcome the move but call for a wider ban.
