Bangladesh commits to ratify the Hong Kong Convention

Bangladesh has pledged to ratify the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Hong Kong Convention, the ship recycling treaty, within the next few weeks, which is expected to allow the HKC to finally enter into force.

The Bangladeshi government made the commitment during a visit to the South Asian country by a high level delegation from the Norwegian authorities, the Norwegian Shipping Association, the European Community Shipowners’ Association, the International Chamber of Shipping and BIMCO. The visit occurred between 8-11 May 2023.
