Valve problem caused loss of steering, grounding

A pilot valve malfunction contributed to the grounding of the Rubina on the river Weser in Germany in 2020, a BSU investigation has concluded.

Germany’s Federal Bureau of Maritime Casualty Investigation (BSU) has published Investigation Report 282/20 into the grounding of the bulk carrier Rubina on the river Weser after a steering gear failure on 27 August 2020.
