Discussion at the 2016 Gas Fuelled Ships Conference suggested that the tide was turning for LNG as a marine fuel with increasing numbers of projects turning from concept to reality. The programme featured a panel discussion between shipowners (represented by Vladimir Shnurkov of Rickmers Shipmanagement and Stefan Bülow of Hamburg Bulk Carriers), Jasper Faber of CE Delft, Malte Seigert of German environmental lobby group NABU and François Cahagne of Engie Global LNG considering the fuel choices facing owners in light of environmental regulations.

Highlight of the second day was a live interview with Peter Keller, executive vice president of Tote Inc and chairman of the SEA\LNG consortium, explored the role that the new group will play in driving the uptake of gas as a marine fuel. Drawing on experiences from Tote’s own LNG projects – including the construction of the first newbuild gas-fuelled containerships to employ dual-fuel engines – Keller explained how SEA\LNG hoped to prove the commercial case for LNG.

With a packed two day technical programme featuring case studies and discussion panels, networking opportunities throughout each day as well as the conference dinner and technical visits, the 8th Gas Fuelled Ships Conference is the place where participants can network with the peers from across the industry and discuss the use and future of low plash point and alternative fuels.
