“Retrofit” is set to be a must-attend session at this year’s Propulsion and Future Fuels conference with the shipping industry coming together to discuss the key requirements for this element of maritime energy transition.

Wattum, Martin

The latest speaker to join the conference programme, and speak in Retrofit, is Martin Wattum. Head of Energy and Operational Efficiency at Klaveness Combination Carriers (KCC), he has expertise in naval architecture, shipping operations, and commercial strategy and leads initiatives to enhance fleet performance and drive energy efficiency across the KCC business.

Since joining Klaveness in 2011, Martin has held key positions across Klaveness Chartering, Klaveness Ship Management (before its divestment to OSM Thome in 2024), and KCC, where he has contributed to the development of new combination carrier concepts, advanced commercial initiatives, and led business transformation projects.

He holds a Master of Science in Naval Architecture from NTNU in Norway.

Klaveness has been an owner and operator of combination carriers since the early 1950s. Over this period, the company has developed and refined vessel design, equipment, operational procedures and crew training to provide efficient and environmentally friendly, high-quality shipping services. The company currently operates a fleet of 16 vessels: Eight CABU vessels and eight CLEANBU vessels, with 3 newbuilds (CABUs) being delivered to the fleet in 2026.

KCC’s combination carriers help to reduce in efficiencies in bulk carrying by consecutively switching between dry and wet cargo shipments with minimum ballast between the laden voyages.
