The Motorship Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference 2026 – 8-10 December in Hamburg – is already assembling a compelling calendar with keynote speeches and panel discussions focused on the latest developments in efficient propulsion technology and low flashpoint, low carbon fuels.

Stepping up to his new role at the conference as a co-Chairman is Dr. Markus Munz, Managing Director of VDMA Large Engines. Formerly at Isuzu Motors Germany, he joined VDMA in 2022, initially as a project manager in engines and systems with special emphasis on Power-to-X.

A panel Moderator at last year’s conference, Markus said: “Hydrogen, e‑fuels, ammonia, methanol, CCS, wind‑assisted and nuclear‑powered technologies are shaping crucial decisions today. At the PFF Conference, experts share insights and hands‑on experience to explore practical solutions driving the maritime industry forward.”

Ensuring continuity Lars Robert Pedersen, Deputy Secretary General of BIMCO, is returning as conference co-Chairman, a role he has held for many years.

Meanwhile experts in the equally central Moderator role include Philipp Simmank, Technical Advisor for Climate, Marine Research & Digitalization at the German Shipowners’ Association (VDR), where he represents the interests of the VDR and its members on the key topics of climate protection, research, development and funding of relevant ship- and propulsion-technologies, and alternative fuels.

Joining Philipp is Gavin Allwright, secretary of the International Windship Association (IWSA), a grouping of wind propulsion companies and projects which promotes and facilitates the uptake of wind propulsion solutions in commercial shipping. Gavin has also been working closely with the Oceania Centre for Sustainable Transport.

Together, the Chairmen and Moderators will oversee an exceptional line-up of expert speakers, steering conference sessions and enabling engaging debate to ensure every delegate leaves with valuable insights and enhanced industry connections.

The 2026 Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference will get off to a flying start in the opening discussion thanks in large part to the presence of Wolfram Guntermann, Hapag-Lloyd’s Director of Regulatory Affairs, who will be on the panel.

Given the opening day’s early focus on regulatory updates, Wolfram will be perfectly placed to speak directly about any new environmental initiatives and legislation emerging from the IMO MEPC meeting in late November.

The PFF Conference was rescheduled a week later than originally planned to avoid any overlap with the IMO meeting. As a result, it will now provide delegates with immediate insights into the latest guidelines and outcomes from MEPC85, and enable meaningful discussions on shipping’s possibly modified regulatory and technical landscape.

In addition, Wolfram’s other role – as Chair of the Environment and Council Group at the World Shipping Council – will no doubt also deliver further valuable insights.
