Alfa Laval’s OceanGlide system has a contribution to make
Retrofitting of existing vessels has emerged as one of shipping’s most practical routes to sustainable decarbonisation and will be an opportunity explored by Alfa Laval’s Bram van Puijenbroek at The Propulsion & Future Fuels 2026 Conference in December.
As a maritime and energy transition leader – and Regional Business Development Manager at Alfa Laval – Bram collaborates with shipowners, operators and industry stakeholders to improve vessel efficiency and reduce emissions using the latest technologies.
Set to speak in the session Retrofit: Turning Existing Fleets into Future-Ready Assets Bram, along with other speakers who will be announced in due course, will explore how vessels can be upgraded to improve efficiency, enable fuel flexibility, extend asset life, and meet evolving regulatory requirements.
His contribution will no doubt include the role of Alfa Laval’s OceanGlide fluidic air lubrication system. This creates a lubricating air layer beneath the vessel’s hull, reducing friction between the ship and water, and resulting in propulsion power savings that directly lower fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.
Alfa Laval has announced OceanGlide retrofits on vessels such as the Vertom Joy, and Bram has previously presented high-frequency, operational data (benchmarked against ISO 19030-2) proving the system’s drag-reduction ability, particularly highlighting operations with Kumiai Navigation.
Taking place in Hamburg from the 8th to the 10th of December 2026, the Propulsion & Future Fuels conference will bring together industry leaders, innovators and technical specialists to explore the fuel pathways and propulsion technologies shaping the next generation of shipping.
