Maritime rules overhaul begins 2025

A wave of new international maritime regulations is set to reshape the shipping industry, according to Lloyd’s Register (LR)

In its latest report, Future IMO and ILO Legislation – Spring 2025, LR outlines a comprehensive suite of statutory changes coming into effect on 1 May 2025, targeting environmental protection, safety standards and seafarer welfare.

Key changes include the entry into force of the Hong Kong Convention on Ship Recycling from 26 June 2025, and updates to MARPOL Annex VI from 1 August, tightening data collection on greenhouse gas emissions under the IMO DCS.
