When two foreign-registered ships collided in UK waters—resulting in the loss of a life, major damage to both vessels, and a significant aviation fuel spill into the North Sea—it raised critical questions around responsibility, liability, and legal jurisdiction. The incident involved the Solong, a container ship registered in Portugal, and the Stena Immaculate, a U.S.-flagged oil tanker. The collision occurred on 10 March 2025 near the Humber Estuary, a key shipping corridor on the UK’s East Coast.
