India Lands Major Norwegian Contract
Norway’s leading short-sea cargo vessel operator Wilson ASA has awarded a contract for up to 14 diesel-electric coasters to Indian shipbuilder Cochin Shipyard. The programme is based on a Dutch-developed 3,800dwt design prepared for adoption of auxiliary wind power and battery hybrid technology.
The transaction entails firm orders for six newbuilds plus options on eight further units. Cochin Shipyard (CSL) has entrusted production to wholly-owned subsidiary Udupi Cochin Shipyard (UCSL), which is tasked with ensuring the initial delivery by the start of 2025, and effecting subsequent completions at approximately three-month intervals.
