The long-awaited UK government announcement giving the go-ahead for the construction of two CVFs, the new future aircraft carriers for the Royal Navy, is expected before the end of next week. Ministers hope to approve the £3.5 billion project before Parliament breaks for its summer recess next Thursday.



British defence group BAE Systems and shipbuilder VT Group will merge their shipbuilding assets following the decision to create a £1 billion company with facilities in Portsmouth and Glasgow.
