China Underpins Car Exporting Future

China’s automotive industry is investing in a new breed of vehicle carrier.

China’s largest car maker, SAIC Motor, has confirmed a contract with Jiangnan Shipyard for two newbuilds that will be the world’s largest vehicle carriers specified with dual-fuel propulsion machinery. The vessels will each offer a load capacity of 7,600CEU (car equivalent units) and be operated by SAIC subsidiary Anji Logistics.
