Wallenius Lines has strengthened its fleet with the acquisition of the vessels m/v Don Juan and m/v Turandot, both of which will now sail under the Swedish flag.

The move is expected to enhance Sweden’s maritime competence while increasing the availability of vessels that may be called upon to support civil society and the Armed Forces in times of need.

Together with the company’s existing six ships, the new additions will play an important role in the Soya Group’s growing engagement in Sweden’s total defence capability. In an environment of shifting security dynamics and evolving market conditions, the presence of a nationally flagged fleet is regarded as vital to safeguarding critical transport capacity should disruptions occur.

“These ships still have a cargo capacity that meets today’s requirements. For us, sustainability is also about ensuring that assets are fully utilised across their service life, and with the right fuel mix they can continue to operate for many years ahead,” commented Erik Nøklebye, Chief Executive Officer of Wallenius Lines.

The m/v Don Juan is due to commence charter service in Asia following docking in early September, while the m/v Turandot is scheduled to begin operations around the turn of the year. With their arrival, Wallenius Lines’ fleet now numbers eight vessels.
