Wärtsilä is to supply Nacos Platinum integrated control systems to a further 27 new container vessels under construction for Maersk Line, meaning that the navigation, automation and propulsion controls will now be installed on the 47 latest Maersk vessels.
The latest vessels are being built in China and South Korea, with Wärtsilä also providing power management systems and control consoles, as well as external communication facilities. The equipment is scheduled for delivery to the yards from this month.
The Nacos Platinum system integrates control systems for navigation, automation, power and propulsion, allowing the vessel to be navigated, controlled, and monitored from various onboard positions. Wärtsilä noted that increasing automation and ship-wide connectivity of data sources presents opportunities for reducing operational expenditure reductions.
Jørgen Hansen, Maersk Line Ship Management, said: “We are looking at a global service and support network as one parameter when systems are selected. We also foresee many synergies across the three [newbuilding] projects, not only in the design phase but also later when the vessels enter service, since further innovation and developments are simpler and faster with one single supplier responsible for the whole system, rather than with several."
