Christian Hoepfner, Managing Director at Wessels Marine GmbH joins the programme on day two of Propulsion & Future Fuels 2019 in the LNG future fuel showcase.

Hoepfner will be presenting ‘Two years' hands on experience with LNG as marine fuel’ and will be providing the operator perspective in this session.

Hoepfner has commented that “switching fuel concepts by main engine conversions does make sense. That’s one conclusion after two years of operating the Wes Amelie”.

His presentation will cover what has been achieved within the last two years, where they stand right now and how they will transfer knowledge of the learning curve towards zero-emission transportation.

Christian Hoepfner has been managing partner of Wessels Marine GmbH, Hamburg, since January 2019. The company focuses on project development and project management services in combination with qualified engineering know-how for solutions with LNG as marine fuel.

As the responsible Project Manager for the world's first conversion of a container ship to LNG operation, he has well-founded and proven experience in the use of LNG as marine fuel. This includes the conversion and subsequent launch of seagoing vessels. The flagship project "Wes Amelie", funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, has contributed significantly to the establishment of LNG as a marine fuel in Northern European container short sea traffic.
