‘Whale tail’ wave foil shows promise

In initial model tests the 'whale tail' reduced friction on the vessel by 9-17%, with a similar reduction in heave and pitch

A new whale tail-shaped wave foil could harness wave energy to reduce fuel consumption for propulsion, if initial results from tests at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) at Marintek’s towing tank are confirmed.
