Order for 4 x 88,000cbm NH3 carriers includes NH3 DF option
Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) and Capital Gas Ship Management Corp have placed orders for four 88,000cbm very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The order is noteworthy as the ship owners have agreed to explore with Hyundai the possibility of equipping the vessels with an ammonia dual-fuel propulsion system.

ClassNK to collaborate in safety relief valve study for LH2 carrier
ClassNK plans to collaborate with Japanese safety relief valve manufacturer Fukui Seisakusho Co., Ltd. (FUKUI) to conduct a joint study on a safety relief valve for liquefied hydrogen applications. A memorandum of understanding for the project, relating to a study of an installation of the safety relief valve on the cargo tank of a liquefied hydrogen (LH2) carrier, was signed at the Gastech event in Singapore earlier this week.

EPS reported to place 3+3 dual-fuel NH3 Newcastlemax order
Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) is reported to have placed an order for three Newcastlemax bulk carriers with Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, with an option for a further three vessels, according to Chinese-language social media reports and broker reports. The order is understood to be the first order for bulk carriers to be powered by dual-fuel engines capable of operating on ammonia as fuel.

Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, has announced the beginning of demonstration tests of the ammonia gas abatement system (AGAS) at its testing facility at Nagasaki District MHI Research & Innovation Center. The tests are intended to demonstrate that the AGAS can safely process surplus ammonia from ammonia-fuelled vessels.

CCS awards AiP to LH2 fuel supply system
Classification society CCS (China Classification Society) has awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) to Weishi Energy Technology Hebei for a liquid hydrogen fuel supply system design suitable for use aboard marine vessels. The AiP is the first to be awarded by CCS for an LH2 fuel supply system.
