    Wallenius Wilhelmsen has ordered four 9,350 car equivalent unit (ceu) vessels from Jinling Shipyard in Jiangsu province, China. The vessels will be capable of operating on methanol as a fuel, and will be ammonia-ready. The order includes individual options for a further eight vessels.

    Groundbreaking First AEngine Test Completed


    MAN Energy Solutions has announced the successful first running of a test engine on ammonia at its Research Centre Copenhagen (RCC). The company reports that the successful combustion was performed on a MAN B&W two-stroke 4T50ME-X type and produced positive results with particularly promising data regarding pilot-oil amount and combustion stability.

    UAE increases hydrogen ambitions in revised Energy Strategy


    The United Arab Emirates (UAE) released a revised Energy Strategy at the beginning of July, earmarking investments of up to US$54 billion into the country’s renewables sector by 2030. Among the projects, the UAE announced that Masdar (the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) plans to increase green hydrogen production to 1.0 million tonnes per year by 2030, and that the state plans to develop two hydrogen production hubs by 2030.

    Equinor is seeking to develop an ammonia fuel bunkering study with Norwegian ammonia bunkering technology developer, Azane Fuel Solutions. The study is intended to address several of the main obstacles to introducing an ammonia fuel bunker supply chain in Norway, including developing estimates of ammonia fuel demand, as well as optimising the ammonia fuel supply value chain. Safety issues relating to ammonia’s properties form a third focus of the study.

    POSCO and ENGIE to develop 1.2m tpy green ammonia export project


    Oman’s hydrogen promotion agency, Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom), granted a consortium led by Korean diversified industrial manufacturer POSCO and ENGIE a 47-year lease on a site for green hydrogen production project, which is intended to supply a green ammonia export project at its emerging export hub at the port of Duqm on 22 June.

    Malaysian Group Looks To Ammonia

Through the group’s shipowning and academic entities, MISC Berhad has inked respective and inter-rated collaboration agreements with Swiss-based two-stroke power specialist Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) and Norwegian classification society DNV.
