Norwegian green shipping specialist Pherousa Green Shipping AS (PGS) has placed a conditional order with Norwegian technology developer TECO 2030 for 6 x 12MW fuel cells for a series of 63,000dwt ammonia-fuelled Ultramax vessels.

The total supply agreement is “subject to financing of PGS’ newbuild vessels” and “reaching a final contract of supply including closing price negotiations according to industry standards”, the fuel cell developer noted.

The Motorship notes that while TECO 2030 expects commercial production of the fuel cell system to begin at end-2024 at TECO 2030’s Innovation Center in Narvik, Norway, testing of TECO 2030’s first 400kW fuel cell at AVL’s test facility in Graz, Austria has not yet begun at the time of writing.

The first fuel cell and cracker shipset is estimated to start shipment to the shipyard by early-2026, with delivery in mid-2026.
