NewsEPS reported to place 3+3 dual-fuel NH3 Newcastlemax order
Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) is reported to have placed an order for three Newcastlemax bulk carriers with Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, with an option for a further three vessels, according to Chinese-language social media reports and broker reports. The order is understood to be the first order for bulk carriers to be powered by dual-fuel engines capable of operating on ammonia as fuel.

Resurgent UK shipyard group Harland & Wolff (H&W) has woven another strand in its business development strategy by pitching for the construction and operation of ferries to serve the Isles of Scilly. An extended trials campaign was implemented by builder Shanghai Waigaoqiao during July with the ship entering its final outfitting phase in anticipation of commissioning into service at the start of 2024.

DNV has confirmed that Erma First’s alternative maritime power (AMP) system, BLUE CONNECT, meets the requirements to be categorised as an ‘energy-saving device’ (ESD). In the same document, DNV recognises the solution’s ability to improve a vessel’s Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) ratings in line with regulations set out by the IMO.

NewsFlexible Robot To Work In Italian Yards
Testing of a mobile robotic welding solution to raise shipbuilding efficiency has begun in Italy. The MR4Weld outdoor automated system is the first issue of a collaboration agreement implemented in 2021 by Trieste-headquartered international shipbuilding group Fincantieri and Turin-based industrial robotics specialist Comau.
