Looking into the lubricant demands of VLSFO fuel

Lubrizol compared five VLSFOs in China with five VLSFOs blended by its in-house laboratory to gauge their effect on engine deposits and lubricant performance.

The Lubrizol Corp has published research into the implications of very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) on deposit formation and lubrication performance in two-stroke engines. Legacy cylinder oils may not protect ship engines from the variable fuel characteristics of such fuels, the global additive supplier has advised.
