Danish Shipping – a Supporter of the 47th Motorship’s Propulsion & Future Fuels conference – has just made a bit of its own history with the election of its first ever Chairwoman of the Board.

Caroline Pontoppidan will now take the Chair at the head of the Board following her election at the organisation’s annual general meeting. She succeeds Torben Carlsen of DFDS, who has held the position since 2023.
Pontoppidan has served as Vice Chair of Danish Shipping for the past three years and is, in her day-to-day role, Executive Vice President (EVP), Chief Legal Officer and Head of Corporate Affairs at A.P. Møller – Maersk.
Danish Shipping has been a significant player in the global shipping industry since 1884, representing more than 90 shipowners and offshore companies. The organisation plays an important and active role with decision-makers nationally, regionally and internationally, and is a member of and works with the European Community Shipowners’ Association (ECSA) and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).
Speaking after her appointment Pontoppidan said: “Proper framework conditions for Danish shipping companies are a prerequisite for maintaining ships under the Danish flag.
“In an intensely competitive industry, it is absolutely crucial that, as shipping companies, we have an organisation behind us that understands our reality right down to the engine room and can translate this knowledge into political frameworks that keep us among the global leaders in shipping.”
Propulsion and Future Fuels will take place 8-10th December at Empire Riverside Hotel, Hamburg.
