The cargo handling system and fuel supply system supply contract for two 98,000 cbm Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLEC) at Samsung Heavy Industries has been awarded to technology group Wärtsilä.
Under the contract, Wärtsilä will supply a cargo handling package for each vessel. This include the cargo handling system, a high-pressure ethane fuel supply system, a tailormade reliquefaction unit and the latest version of Wärtsilä’s proprietary remote monitoring and diagnosis tool Operim.
The order includes an option for a third VLEC vessel.
The order follows a similar contract awarded in 2019 for three VLECs, also under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries.
Wärtsilä’s unsurpassed experience in this field was a key reason for this repeat order, which was placed in September 2020.
