A newly-established European venture plans to order a series of con-ro type vessels developed to bring efficiencies in refrigerated cargo transportation. Under the aegis of D4R² Shipping, the flotilla is targeted at the transatlantic trade in bananas and pineapples from Ecuador and other Latin American sources to the European market.

D4R₂ Shipping has been set up by the Danish maritime equity fund Dee4 Capital and Swiss-based Reefer RoRo AG, using a versatile new vessel design concept addressing what are seen as the shortcomings of specialised reefer ships.
