UAE increases hydrogen ambitions in revised Energy Strategy
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) released a revised Energy Strategy at the beginning of July, earmarking investments of up to US$54 billion into the country’s renewables sector by 2030. Among the projects, the UAE announced that Masdar (the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) plans to increase green hydrogen production to 1.0 million tonnes per year by 2030, and that the state plans to develop two hydrogen production hubs by 2030.

SHI lands 16 x MeOH-fuelled 16,000 teu order from Evergreen
Evergreen Shipping’s subsidiary Evergreen Marine (Asia) has placed an order with Samsung Heavy Industries for 16 x 16,000 teu container vessel newbuildings, and a separate order for 8 x 16,000 teu with Japan’s Nihon Shipyard, according to an announcement at its shareholder meeting on 11 July. Mitsui Augments Engine Production Range
Ranked among the world’s most prolific manufacturers of large marine engines, Mitsui E&S (MES) produced 136 two-stroke units totalling 2.83m bhp (2.11m kW) under its MAN licence in the past financial year. Affirming market recovery and the resilience of Japanese shipbuilders, the projected output from the company’s Tamano complex for the current year ending 31 March 2024 is up at 2.90m bhp (2.16m kW), consisting of 143 units.
