Using an abundant, if toxic, resource to power the maritime fleet. A mature future fuel already in use - but will it become dominant? LNG is currently the most popular lower carbon fuel, but with bio and e-LNG it could move beyond its current transition fuel status supported by extensive existing infrastructure. Numerous NGOs protested against the IMO earlier this year putting biofuels in its Global Fuel Standard, but the “fuel versus food” debate seems to have been solved by deriving fuels from waste. Woodward showcases next-gen engine tech to support decarbonisation
Woodward, a provider of fuel injection, gas admission, mass flow control and energy management systems, has unveiled its comprehensive portfolio of large engine system solutions designed to support the maritime industry’s transition to low-carbon fuels such as methanol and ammonia.
The company has integrated its product offerings into a unified family platform that includes Medium-Pressure Injection (MPI), High-Pressure Dual Fuel (HPDF), SOGAV gas admission valves, X-series actuation systems and the Large Engine Control Module (LECM) for advanced electronic control.
