As the shipping industry presses ahead with decarbonisation, despite a backdrop of shifting political agendas and corporate recalibrations, biodiesel is gaining ground – especially in the cruise sector, where many of the major lines have experimented with biofuels like Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME) and Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) to reduce reliance on traditional fossil fuels.

Yet as the sector embraces these alternatives, experts are urging operators to handle with care give a plethora of technical, operational, and maintenance challenges.
