Scana Volda of Norway has signed a contract, valued at around NOK 24million, with STX OSV Trading for delivery of three gear and propeller systems with remote control for three STX OSV-designed trawlers.
The contract includes an option for delivery of two additional systems, to be declared by 15tJanuary 2012. The order covers diesel-electric propulsion systems with total power of 4,400kW. This is divided into two controllable pitch propellers in nozzles that are driven by two electric motors connected to two Scana reduction gears. The vessels are designed for energy efficiency and will be built in accordance with DNV clean design requirements.
The vessels will be built at STX OSV Braila Shipyard in Romania, and completed at one of STX OSV’s shipyards in Norway. The equipment will be delivered in May, August and October 2012. The end customer is Aker Seafood ASA, Norway.
