The 2026 Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference – from 8 to 10 December in Hamburg – will benefit from the expertise and insights of a recognised expert in his field – Phillip Simmank, Technical Advisor for Climate, Marine Research & Digitalization to the VDR, the German Shipowners Association.

In this role Simmank represents the VDR and its members on key topics, including the funding of ship propulsion-technologies and alternative fuels, to national and international institutions such as federal and state authorities, shipowners’ associations and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Prior to joining VDR Simmank was a Senior Research Engineer at MAN ES Denmark – now Everllence – where he was in charge for all topics evolving around the environmental certification of large two-stroke marine engines and was also an advisor to the Danish delegation at the IMO.

At the 47th Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference Simmank will be working alongside other expert moderators in a variety of fields, including Gavin Allwright, Secretary General of the International Windship Association, and Markus Münz, MD at VDMA Large Engines, and BIMCO’s Deputy General Secretary Lars Robert Pederson, both of whom are also Chairmen of the conference.
