Innovative Spanish diesel/battery-electric ro-pax ferry Cap de Barbaria is being readied for service entry during the coming summer season in the western Mediterranean.

The 82m newbuild will be capable of zero emission operation while approaching, manoeuvring and alongside in port. Furthermore, the double-ended vessel has been designed to act as a demonstrator for hydrogen fuel cell technology.

Constructed by the Vigo yard of Astilleros Armon to the account of Balearia, Cap de Barbaria will transport up to 14 trucks and 390 passengers on the inter-island route linking Ibiza with its smaller neighbour Formentera.
