Senior Government Official, Federal Ministry of Transport

After an apprenticeship as a car mechanic, Torsten Mundt studied ship machinery engineering at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), graduating in 1998 with a degree in engineering.
Prior to joining the Federal Ministry of Transport in 2020, he held various professional positions:
- Engine test bench engineer in research & development at an engine manufacturer for 2 years (Deutz/MWM AG, Mannheim)
- Project manager in research & development on engine test benches in the mineral oil industry, 8 years (3 years in automotive, 5 years marine and power sector at Shell Global Solutions GmbH, Hamburg).
- Project manager in research & development (Consultant Air Emissions) and acting as technical Advisor for the German Federal Ministry of Transport (Germanischer Lloyd im F&E Bereich und DNV GL, 12 years) including, among other things:
- consulting for IMO on reduction of GHG emissions (EEDI, CII)
- on EU Legislation particularly on MRV- Regulation (Verordnung: EU 2015/757[1]) and ESSF Member in several Subgroups
- also, committee work in IACS[2]; CIMAC[3] and in ISO[4] for Marine Fuels
- In addition, Mr. Mundt served as a lecturer for piston engines at the private university of applied sciences in Elmshorn from 2010 to 2019 (‚NORDAKADEMIE‘).
Since December 2020, Mr. Mundt is senior policy officer at the German Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) and is responsible for technical issues under MARPOL Annex VI of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), focusing on greenhouse gas and air pollutant reduction in maritime transport. He is involved with the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) and the relevant EU bodies.
Mr. Mundt is the head of delegation for Germany to the IMO Subcommittee on Pollution Prevention and Control (PPR).
