Head of Environmental Technologies - DNV

Dr. Fabian Kock is the Head of Environmental Technologies Air at DNV in Hamburg, Germany. In this role, he leads the section responsible for environmental certification within the maritime sector. His responsibilities include the certification of marine diesel engines, marine exhaust gas aftertreatment systems—such as SCR catalysts and scrubbers—as well as the assessment and certification of ship energy efficiency. The scope of his role also encompasses oversight of a dedicated laboratory for the measurement of exhaust gas components and particulate matter. 

In addition, Dr. Kock serves as a technical advisor to the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, providing expert guidance on emissions to air from international shipping within the framework of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). 

Prior to his current position, Dr. Kock headed the Approval Section at the DNV Approval Centre China. In this capacity, he was responsible for the plan approval of newbuilding projects across Greater China, covering a wide range of disciplines including hull and stability, statutory compliance, piping systems, electrical and bridge systems, as well as propulsion, engines, and machinery. 

Dr. Kock’s professional background includes extensive research experience in heat transfer and fluid dynamics, alongside deep expertise in internal combustion engine development. He joined DNV in 2009 after completing his studies in mechanical engineering in Hamburg, Sydney, and Chennai, followed by industry experience in engine development.
