CEO - XFuel
Dr. Nicholas Ball is the CEO and Co-Founder of XFuel, a company pioneering low-carbon drop-in fuels to decarbonise the transport sector. With over 15 years of experience spanning start-ups, renewable energy, consultancy, and business growth, Dr. Ball brings a unique blend of technical expertise and strategic leadership. He holds both a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Engineering from Imperial College London, and has built his career as an engineer, researcher, consultant, and entrepreneur. Over the years, he has worked on a wide range of innovation and transformation projects across sectors including management consultancy and digitisation, energy, medical technology, and start-up ventures. His journey with XFuel began in 2015, when he joined the board of directors. In 2021, he took on the role of CEO to lead the company’s commercialisation strategy and scale its breakthrough technology. In 2025, under his leadership, XFuel successfully closed its Series A funding round, and secured investment from the EU through the European Innovation Council (EIC).
