Merchant Fleet Business Development Manager – Northern Europe, Thordon Bearings

With a foundation in chemical engineering from Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden, Martin transitioned his two decades of international business experience - including working with gourmet food and semiconductor industry - into a dedicated maritime career focused on critical onboard systems and propulsion technology.
Starting at Uson Marine AB, where he successfully managed regional sales and marketing for waste handling machinery across Asia and Germany. Martin then joined Optimarin AS, a leader in Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS), where he quickly became an Area Sales Manager for Asia before being promoted to President/Sales Manager Asia. In this leadership role spanning over a decade, he was ultimately responsible for Optimarin’s entire operation in Japan, including establishing the local subsidiary and driving significant sales growth across Japan and South-East Asia.
After moving back to Sweden, he joined Berg Propulsion as the Sales Manager for Energy & Efficiency. In this capacity, he was at the forefront of the industry’s shift toward sustainability, leading sales and marketing efforts for mechanical and electrical propulsion optimization. His work involved detailed analysis of commercial vessels to implement solutions, including propeller blades, control systems, and software to achieve substantial fuel efficiency
Currently, Martin is the Merchant Fleet Business Development Manager – Europe for Thordon Bearings a Canadian polymer bearing manufacturer of Propeller Shaft Bearings & Systems, Rudder Bearings, Deck Equipment Bearings and Shaft Seals represented worldwide, with a global group of distributors. With over 35 years of experience, Thordon Bearings is providing the Maritime market with long life marine bearings that operate without oil and grease.
