Avance Gas takes up LPG-fuelled LPG/ammonia carrier options
Avance Gas has taken up an option for two 40,000 cbm LPG/ammonia carrier newbuildings with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE). The dual-fuel newbuildings will be powered by engines capable of operating on either LPG or compliant fuel oil, the ship owner confirmed.

Chevron broadens collaboration with Cummins into biofuels
Chevron’s US subsidiary Chevron U.S.A. Inc., signed a memorandum of understanding with Cummins on 10 August extending the scope of an existing 2021 strategic collaboration agreement to cover biofuels, including renewable natural gasoline blends and biodiesel. The new agreement is intended to encourage the commercial and industrial adoption of the fuels in North America.

Mads Carsten Jespersen and a team of researchers from Technical University of Denmark (DTU) presented research into widening the operating limits of a spark-ignited engine operating on pure ammonia and confirmed that combustion of 100% ammonia, pre-mixed with air but without an ignition improver is feasible.

Wallenius Wilhelmsen orders 4+8 methanol-fuelled PCTCs
Wallenius Wilhelmsen has ordered four 9,350 car equivalent unit (ceu) vessels from Jinling Shipyard in Jiangsu province, China. The vessels will be capable of operating on methanol as a fuel, and will be ammonia-ready. The order includes individual options for a further eight vessels.
