Avance Gas has taken up an option for two 40,000 cbm LPG/ammonia carrier newbuildings with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE). The dual-fuel newbuildings will be powered by engines capable of operating on either LPG or compliant fuel oil, the ship owner confirmed.

Avance Gas previously announced the order of two 40,000cbm LPG/ammonia carrier newbuildings with CIMC SOE in June 2023. The latest orders are scheduled for delivery between Q2 2026 and Q4 2026.

Avance Gas took delivery of two ammonia-ready 91,000cbm LNGCs in 2023, including the Avance Rigel (pictured).

The order extends Avance Gas’s mid-size LPG-fuelled LPG/ammonia carrier order book. Oystein Kaklev, ceo of Avance Gas, noted that such vessels would position the group for an expected growth in ammonia trade volumes, as ammonia parcels tended to be offered in that size range.

Avance Gas confirmed that the group has two very large gas carrier newbuildings on order with a 2024 delivery date that will be capable of transporting and operating on ammonia as a fuel. Avance Gas noted that it already has two ammonia-ready VLGCs in operation that will be capable of operating on ammonia.

The newbuildings will feature a LPG-fuelled two-stroke propulsion system for the main engine, along with shaft generators.
