Hafnia places maiden dual-fuel methanol newbuilding order

The global methanol fleet is set to grow with shipowners Hafnia and Socatra announcing an order for four dual-fuel vessels capable of operating on methanol. The order for four 49,800 dwt Chemical IMOII Medium-Range (MR) Newbuilds has been placed with Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) in southern China.

The order is the first for Hafnia for vessels equipped with engines capable of operating on methanol. The newbuilding order was placed in partnership with France-based shipowner Socatra, which previously announced methanol-fuelled newbuilding orders earlier in 2023. The vessels will enter into a long-term charter with TotalEnergies’ shipping subsidiary CSSA upon delivery.
