ABS has issued new technology qualification for an innovative ammonia-to-electrical power system from Amogy.

The power system splits, or ‘cracks’, liquid ammonia into its base elements of hydrogen and nitrogen, funnelling the hydrogen into a fuel cell generating sustainable high-performance power.
“This achievement marks a significant milestone on our path toward broader industry adoption of our technology, highlighting the safety, viability, and maturity of our ammonia-powered solution,” said Seonghoon Woo, chief executive at Amogy.
“We are excited to further collaborate with ABS as we advance through the new technology qualification process.”
ABS NTQ services offer guidance and certification on the early adoption and implementation of new technologies which demonstrate level of maturity and that potential risks have been reviewed.
In awarding this NTQ, the classification society assessed Amogy’s integrated reactor system which transforms ammonia into hydrogen to give pure hydrogen gas that can be used for fuel cells.
