A terminal operator in Hong Kong is trialling the use of hydrotreated vegetable oil, becoming the first company in the region to use this renewable diesel.

Modern Terminals will be testing the HVO for three to four weeks at its facilities at Terminal 9 (South) as part of its wider decarbonisation programme.

“We have been looking at various possible technologies for decarbonisation since we have established our 2030 and 2050 decarbonisation goals back in 2021,” explained group managing director Horace Lo.
