Japanese operator Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K Line) has ordered 8 x 7,000 ceu car carriers. The orders for the dual-fuel LNG-fuelled newbuildings have been placed with Nihon Shipyard and Shin Kurushima Dockyard in Japan and China Merchants Jinling Shipyard.
The order follows the delivery of K Line's first LNG-fuelled PCTC in March 2021, which was powered by a MAN B&W ME-GI main engine.
The series of 7,000 ceu PCTCs is expected to be delivered between Q2 2023 and Q1 2025.
The next-generation vessels are expected to achieve CO2 emission reductions of 25-30%. The vessels will be equipped with an EGR system that will lower SOx emissions by almost 100%, and NOx emissions by 80-90%, compared with conventional vessels operating on heavy fuel oil.
