Autonomous barge voyage demonstration in Belgium

A inland waterway barge has completed a 16.5km demonstration journey within Belgium’s inland waterways demonstrating the increasing maturity of autonomous operation systems. 

The test vessel, Zulu 4, an inland waterway barge owned by Blue Line Logistics NV, is equipped for remote-operated and autonomous transport demonstrations for the AUTOSHIP project, which is part of Horizon 2020, an EU research programme.

The test follows shortly after a Norwegian coastal cargo ship Eidsvaag Pioneer completed a 160 nautical sea mile remote-operated and autonomous demonstration within the AUTOSHIP project on 25 May.
