New Breed For Canadian Product Flows
Canadian operator Algoma Central Corporation has specified methanol-ready main engine power for two product tankers ordered in South Korea. The 37,000dwt ice-class newbuilds have been fixed on long-term charter to Irving Oil, and will trade out of the company’s Saint John refinery in New Brunswick, hauling cargoes to Atlantic Canada and US East Coast destinations.

Rolls-Royce opens new mtu Series 2000 assembly plant
Rolls-Royce opened a new assembly plant for its mtu Series 2000 engines in Kluftern near Friedrichshafen, Germany on 23 June. The relocation of mtu Series 2000 engines production will free up space for the production of Series 4000 engines in Rolls-Royce’s Plant 2 in Friedrichshafen, once modernisation work is completed.

Second Fratelli Cosulich LNG bunker vessel launched
The second LNG bunker vessel newbuilding for Fratelli Cosulich s.r.l. was launched at Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE) in late June. The Paolina Cosulich will expand the range of LNG bunkering solutions in the Mediterranean Sea when she enters service in Q1 2024.

NYK confirms order for WinGD VCR technology on DF coal carriers
Japanese ship owner NYK Line has confirmed that it has selected WinGD’s new variable compression ration (VCR) technology for dual-fuel X62DF engines for two dual-fuel coal carriers. The vessels will be among the first to feature WinGD’s cutting-edge combustion optimisation technology, which is expected to lead to significant fuel efficiency savings in gas mode at part and low load operation and diesel mode across the load range.

Stena Line plans series of methanol conversions
Stena Line plans to convert a number of its vessels to dual-fuel operation, capable of operation on methanol as fuel. While the specific details of the order have not yet been announced, Stena Line has awarded Wärtsilä a contract to carry out and convert some of its vessels to operate on methanol fuel.

Equinor undertakes NH3 bunkering study with Norwegian tech developer
Equinor is seeking to develop an ammonia fuel bunkering study with Norwegian ammonia bunkering technology developer, Azane Fuel Solutions. The study is intended to address several of the main obstacles to introducing an ammonia fuel bunker supply chain in Norway, including developing estimates of ammonia fuel demand, as well as optimising the ammonia fuel supply value chain. Safety issues relating to ammonia’s properties form a third focus of the study.

Oman’s hydrogen promotion agency, Hydrogen Oman (Hydrom), granted a consortium led by Korean diversified industrial manufacturer POSCO and ENGIE a 47-year lease on a site for green hydrogen production project, which is intended to supply a green ammonia export project at its emerging export hub at the port of Duqm on 22 June.
