This year’s Carbon Capture session on Day Two of the Propulsion and Future Fuels conference, Wednesday 26 November, will consider the feasibility of storing emissions onboard.

Moderator, Dr. Markus Münz, Managing Director of VDMA Large Engines, CIMAC Germany, will introduce the expert speakers who will be considering how to navigate the regulatory minefield and the considerations for weight, purity, handling and storage of carbon.
Speakers in the session are Stian Aakre, General Manager, Technical and R&D at Wärtsilä Exhaust Treatment; René Sejer Laursen, Director at ABS, Frédéric Le Moullec Commercial Manager at Value Maritime and DI Peter Ranacher, Research Engineer at LEC GmbH.
Dr. Markus Münz has studied Mechanical and Process engineering at TU Darmstadt in Germany. He holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Process Engineering, a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mechanics, as well as a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering.
Stian Aakre has been working in marine and shore-based applications of environmental technology for more than 30 years. He holds an MSc degree in physical chemistry from the Norwegian Institute of Technology. Prior to joining Wärtsilä in 2010 he served as Head of Environment for a major Norwegian ship-owner and as a consultant in environmental technology and sustainability.
Mr. René Sejer Laursen holds an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark. Since 2020 René has worked for ABS in Copenhagen, working in the Global Sustainability Group as Director with responsibility for fuels and new technology.
DI Peter Ranacher is working on a dissertation on greenhouse gases and their mitigation with a focus on carbon capture at LEC GmbH in Graz. He is working on the theoretical and simulation-based investigation of various CO2 separation technologies for complex energy and propulsion systems. In addition, he models and simulates process chains for CO2 separation in combustion-based energy systems and conducts techno-economic analyses.
