Removing commercial barriers to the uptake of LNG as a marine fuel was the focus of a live interview with Peter Keller, executive vice president of Tote Inc and chairman of the SEA\LNG consortium, at last month’s Gas Fuelled Ships conference.
Keller steered Tote’s early adoption of LNG for two newbuild containerships and associated bunkering infrastructure, with another two retrofitted vessels and further shoreside investments in the pipeline. He discussed the challenges faced in establishing that business, and how the newly formed SEA\LNG project – comprising several leading molecule owners, OEMs, port authorities and shipping lines – could help others overcome those obstacles.
The interview with Gavin Lipsith, editor, The Motorship, was part of a vibrant two-day programme of technical presentations focused on the latest developments in technology for LNG-fuelled vessels. The conference, organised by The Motorship and publisher Mercator Media Ltd, is now in its seventh year.
