AiP for first Korean NH3 FSRU
Lloyd’s Register (LR) has awarded Approval in Principle (AiP) to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) for its Ammonia Floating Storage Re-Gasification Unit (FSRU), the first of its kind in Korea.

Chevron in NH3 joint study project with Angelicoussis Group
Chevron has announced the agreement of a joint study agreement (JSA) with the Angelicoussis Group into the transportation of ammonia in tankers. The deal was announced between the Energy Transition focused division of the Angelicoussis Group, Green Ships, Chevron’s subsidiary Chevron Shipping Company LLC.

Norwegian project to develop ammonia reforming technology for NH3 carriers
Wärtsilä is participating in a Norwegian state-funded project to develop ammonia reforming technology for installation on board ammonia (NH3) carriers. The objective of the project is to enable ammonia to be converted back to hydrogen at the receiving destination, allowing ammonia carriers to convert (or catalytically reform) cargoes into hydrogen, acting as a floating receiving terminal capable of being relocated as needed, requiring minimal use of coastal land and a solution resulting in lower overall cost, improved safety and competitive hydrogen prices.

Bureau Veritas (BV) has awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) to Viridis Bulk Carriers for an innovative ammonia (NH3)-fuelled short-sea bulk carrier design. Viridis Bulk Carriers expects to place the first orders for NH3-fuelled ships during 2023, with deliveries starting in 2025.

ClassNK has issued the world’s first AiP an Approval in Principle (AiP) for an ammonia floating storage and regasification barge (A-FSRB) design handling ammonia as cargo. The A-FSRB design was jointly developed by NYK Line, Nihon Shipyard Co., Ltd. (NSY), and IHI Corporation (IHI).
