HMM to trial Korean onboard CCS in H2 2023

South Korean container operator HMM has announced that it will conduct field tests on an onboard carbon capture and storage system on a multipurpose vessel in its fleet in the second half of 2023. HMM has selected OCCS technology developed by Korean cleantech developer Panasia, following the successful conclusion of a feasibility study.

The feasibility study has revealed that Panasia’s OCCS solution can be installed without significant modifications to the vessel’s existing equipment, and without affecting the vessel’s stability. 

HMM announced that following the installation of an OCCS to its containership, it will conduct an operational test, with project partners Panasia and Samsung Heavy Industries providing engineering support.
