The enormous decarbonisation potential and real-world challenges of drop-in fuels and biofuels will be explored at the 47th Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference this December.

Among the experts contributing to the keynote session – Drop-in Fuels & Biofuels – Machinery impact, compatibility, and emissions outcomes – is Joe Bettles, a Climate Policy and Analysis Manager based in Copenhagen at the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping.

With a Master’s degree in Public Policy from UC San Diego, and a background in renewable energy development, Joe is focused on the economic impact of policies on shipping companies and marine fuel suppliers, and works to advance policymaking that can drive innovation and accelerate the energy transition.

He launched the Countdown newsletter series in 2024 on FuelEU Maritime and IMO Mid-term Measures, with analysis to support policy-driven investments in green shipping. Joe was also the lead author of the Transatlantic Testing Ground report on how the combination of EU and US policies create an opportunity to bring down the cost of sustainable fuels on transatlantic routes.

The 47th edition of the Propulsion and Future Fuels Conference – the longest running technical conference in the maritime sector – will be held from 8-10 December at the prestigious Empire Riverside Hotel in Hamburg.

The highly valued, annual opportunity to benefit from the shared knowledge and expertise of senior industry executives was rescheduled a week later than originally planned to avoid any overlap with the IMO MEPC meetings.

This will allow delegates to receive insights into the latest guidelines and outcomes from MEPC85, and engage in meaningful discussions on shipping’s future regulatory and technical landscape

An Early Bird Discount of 20% remains available for those looking to join the conference.
