The Motorship Award returns as part of the Propulsion & Future Fuels Conference once again, taking place in Hamburg from the 8th to the 10th of December 2026. Building on the success of last year’s award programme, which attracted entries ranging from hydrogen ferry development and onboard biofuel processing to sustainable ship design and carbon compliance management, it continues to showcase practical, partnership-driven projects from across the shipping industry. Last year’s winner, Thordon Bearings, was recognised for its T-BOSS® sterntubeless ship design, developed in collaboration with a consortium of maritime partners.

Open exclusively to joint initiatives involving at least two stakeholders such as shipowners, shipyards, classification societies, naval architects, equipment or fuel suppliers, and academic institutions, the award celebrates the power of collaboration in tackling shared challenges.

Submissions are welcomed across a range of key themes, including methanol, ammonia, hydrogen and fuel cells, biofuels, wind-assisted propulsion, onboard carbon capture, bunkering infrastructure, integrated propulsion systems, and ammonia operations. Entries should demonstrate real-world application, with a focus on safety, efficiency, emissions performance, and system integration.

To ensure consistency in judging, submissions should be limited to either a 500-word document or a five-page presentation. Shortlisted projects will be showcased at the conference, with finalists invited to present their work directly to senior industry stakeholders and decision-makers.
